    Position Summary

    The Rail Road Safety Manager provides development, implementation and control of the Environmental, Health, Safety and Security (EHS&S), DOT, FRA, OSHA procedures in accordance to company needs, policies, public relations and state and federal regulations. 

    Duties and Responsibilities: 

    • Provide support to terminal management in all aspects of terminal EHS&S and associated personnel. 
    • Assist with incident investigations & report any safety situations to Director. 
    • Perform annual Risk Assessment audits of Rail Yard and transloading.
    • Administer Rail Road safety training as necessary for Loaders and terminal personnel. 
    • Conduct on-site accident investigations involving our Rail Sites.
    • Handle safety accidents until conclusion and stay for long periods of time gathering information.
    • Develop a positive working relationship with Terminal Manager, and Loaders, clerks.
    • Investigate all preventable and non-preventable accidents/incidents within the region.
    • Provide remedial training/correction action to individuals as a result of the investigation discoveries.
    • Assist in the development of new safety policies and training procedures as needed. 
    • Travel to Rail Sites across the country at least 9 months a year.
    • Handle FRA inspections in time of need.
    • Assist with spills and incidents. 

     

    Requirements

     

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
    • Experience using Microsoft Suite applications, TMW, People Net
    • Five years professional safety experience in the transportation industry 
    • Experience with driver applications, Elogs, DQ files, HOS Compliance, Driver Qualification processing, log auditing, electronic mobile communications FRA, FMCSA regulations, OSHA and transportation of hazardous materials

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Transportation Logistics
    • Experience in liquid bulk transportation safety
    • Knowledge of Hazardous Materials transportation regulations

    • Ability to work with and coach drivers to drive safety and ensure compliance

    Language Skills:

    • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently

    Physical Demands:  

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  
    • This position may be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel; reach with hand and arms, and stoop, kneel or crouch as needed.  
    • Specific vision requirements include the ability to see at close range, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
    • This position may require on-call capabilities on evening and weekends.
    • Extensive overnight travel is required.
    • Ability to operate in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. 

    Work Environment:

    • The position typically operates in a standard office environment or from home office.
    • This position routinely uses office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, file cabinets, and scanners.
