Note from Bob Heniff
Dear
Valued Customer:
As
we finish up the first half of the year, I would like to take this
opportunity to update you on some of our key initiatives. Our new
transloading site, located in New Orleans, LA, is currently under
construction. The new state-of-the-art tank wash, maintenance facilities
and offices on this property will be operational
in the third quarter. This terminal, located on the
New Orleans Public Belt, has access to the six leading
railroads, and will greatly increase our capabilities in the Gulf Coast
region.
Our
other new transloading facility, located in Channelview, TX, is also under
construction and will be complete later this year. This terminal will also
have full-service capabilities, including maintenance bays, tank wash, UP
rail access, and much more.
From a staffing perspective, we've added some key financial and
terminal management employees to help support our growth as a company. Bob
Gilhooly, Angie Mason, and Towania Spencer bring a wealth of experience to
their new financial roles at Heniff. Chad Davis, our new Kingsport, TN terminal
manager, brings many years of driving, dispatch and management experience.
As we plan for the balance of the year, our focus
will remain the same. We will continue to have a laser-like focus
on delivering our customers' chemical products safely and securely every
time, rapidly growing our capacity through purchasing state-of-the-art
trucks and trailers, and providing unmatched customer service to our customers.
Regards,
Bob
Heniff
President
Heniff Transportation Systems, LLC.

Addressing the Fuel Cost Challenge
As widely reported, diesel prices have soared to a record
$4.723 per gallon, up $1.90 from the same time last year. According to the
American Trucking Association, this increase is costing the trucking industry
$1.4 billion more per week compared to last year. Fuel costs are having a
huge impact on our industry. For many carriers, fuel is now equal to labor
as the highest expense. To aggressively address rising fuel costs, Heniff
Transportation is taking a variety of steps to continuously improve
the fuel efficiency of our
rapidly growing
truck fleet.
-
High-Quality Tractors -- Purchasing
the most fuel-efficient and aerodynamic tractors on the market today,
including fuel-efficient engines, integrated
high roof and fuel side fairings, side fairing gap reducers,
and aerodynamic bumpers and mirrors.
-
Regular Maintenance -- Properly
maintaining tractors, including wheel alignment, fuel filters, tire
pressure, and reqularly resetting fuel injectors and valves.
-
Driver Performance --
Utilizing Volvo's Performance Bonus Guide on the dashboard to
provide real-time feedback to coach drivers to be more fuel efficient and
to keep the engine in the "sweet spot" of its performance range, ultimately
improving the engine's fuel efficiency.
-
Truck Speed -- Lowering
average MPH by 2 MPH across all trucks. The rule of thumb is a truck gains
one tenth of a mile per gallon for every one mile per hour reduction in speed.
-
Engine Idling -- Evaluating
solutions to reduce engine idling via portable HVAC systems, small diesel
generators, and truck stop electrification locations. Idling
typically costs 1 gallon of diesel fuel per hour (source: Argonne National
Laboratory - R&D Center).
-
Tires -- As tires wear out, we're r
eplacing the standard two thinner tires per wheel
with a single wide-base tire to improve fuel efficiency of heavy-duty
tractor-trailer trucks. According to studies by Oak Ridge National Laboratory
(ORNL),
gas mileage increases
nearly 3% with use of wider single tires on tractor-trailers.
